Winter Wine Picks
The Winery - 19th Jun, 2012
We asked our lovely Group Sommelier Sarah for her top picks for winter wines, and surprise surprise, it’s all about the reds, but you may not have heard of these unusual beauties…
Give me a red wine cuddle, it’s getting cold! It’s time for some rockin reds to warm us up over the next few months, so here’s a few of my favs off our lists.

Massena Tannat, Barossa Valley, South Australia
Tannat originates from the Basque region of France where the loco’s live on cassoulet, foie gras and a whole lotta Tannat. The Tannat is supposedly behind the Basque peeps high life expectancy, on average living past a wholesome 90 years old… so if you needed an excuse, there it is! This tannat is bold and pure, loaded with blackberry, bramble and dried bayleaf flavours and damn right delish.
Nugan Estate ‘Manuka Grove’ Durif, Riverina, New South Wales
This is like winter in a glass, like a big hug from a marshmallow, it gives me the warm and fuzzys! Durif aka Petite Syrah came to our shores in 1908 from France and has made a nice little home for itself in Australia. Laden with Chocolate, Coffee, Christmas cake and Spiced flavours there is no better way to beat the winter blues than with a bottle of this.
